Healthy Youth, Healthy Future

Healthy Youth, Healthy Future is a one-of-a-kind program hosted by HPV Cancers Alliance that integrates cancer prevention into the next generation of leaders in health, sciences, and policy.

Every year, HPVCA brings together a group of student advocates in Washington, D.C., to participate in expert-led public health and legislative training. This prepares them to embark on Capitol Hill to discuss the burden of HPV, related cancers, and the policy changes, including the PREVENT HPV CANCERS ACT (H.R. 3633) needed to spread knowledge and save lives.

2025 –
HEALTHY YOUTH, HEALTHY FUTURE

In June 2025, HPV Cancers Alliance proudly hosted the Healthy Youth, Healthy Future Program, an empowering two-day initiative designed to educate and mobilize the next generation of cancer prevention advocates. Bringing together a passionate cohort of high school and college students, the program focused on raising awareness about HPV-related cancers and driving critical legislative action.

On June 3rd, participants engaged in a comprehensive training day led by Founder and President of Global Initiative Against HPV & Cervical Cancer Dr. Shobha Krishnan and Healthy Women’s Senior Policy Advisor Martha Nolan, where they explored the science of cancer prevention, strengthened their advocacy skills, and connected with fellow changemakers during a collaborative networking dinner. The following day, students headed to Capitol Hill where they met with federal lawmakers and staff from across the country. These meetings were not only productive but exceptionally well-received. Advocates spotlighted the urgent need to advance primary prevention through policy, particularly the PREVENT HPV Cancers Act. Held just ahead of the bill’s anticipated reintroduction in early July, the timing of these discussions proved pivotal. Constituents effectively garnered interest and enthusiasm for co-sponsorship, laying a strong foundation for bipartisan support of this critical legislation.

2024 –
HEALTHY GIRLS, HEALTHY WOMEN:

In June 2024, HPV Cancers Alliance launched Healthy Girls, Healthy Women in Washington, D.C., a transformative initiative aimed at educating and empowering the next generation of cancer prevention advocates. The program brought HPV-related cancers to the forefront on Capitol Hill, highlighting the need for awareness, prevention, early detection, advanced treatment, and survivorship support.

Eight passionate young advocates participated in immersive workshops on HPV education, cancer awareness strategies, and legislative training. The day culminated in a meeting with Catharine Young, PhD, Assistant Director of the Biden Cancer Moonshot Policy and International Engagement, where they joined the national conversation on eradicating HPV-related cancers.

Equipped with personalized toolkits, the advocates left Washington ready to launch cancer awareness campaigns in their communities, furthering the initiative’s impact.
